METEORITE CLASSIFICATION SERVICE |

|
The Meteorite Shop and the Bathurst Observatory is pleased to announce a joint effort to classify common chondrite meteorites. Classification will give the petrographic grade (ie: L6, H5, LL4 ect) weathering, shock and Fa values. Note that the service cannot classify Iron meteorites. We are averaging roughly three months turnaround time on the classifications. This is much faster that most labs which will take one to three years on average when classifying common chondrites.
REQUIREMENTS ARE:
or if the TKW is under 100 grams then we require 20% of the TKW. This meteorite sample will be deposited as a permanent "Type Specimen" at an institution approved by the meteoritical society. This is the requirement of the meteoritical society and we do not keep any ourselves. This 20 grams or 20% size is the meteoritical society requirement and cannot be negotiated down. Also required is.
Purchase or find details and information about the meteorite that the submitted sample is from. We will get your meteorite an official name and can recomend a name to the meteoritical society but the final decision on wither you get a place name or a numeric name will be the decision of the meteoritical society. You should send us as much information about your meteorite as possible. Almost all of the classifications that we have been doing are NWA meteorites but we can do others also. Please ensure that what you have however is a real meteorite before you submit it as most of the fee is used up in the classification and we cannot offer a refund if your rock turns out to not be a meteorite. If you buy meteorites from my own website or ebay auctions and want it classified I can cut 20 grams off and submit the sample at no additional cost. See here to buy meteorites. THE METEORITE SHOP
